A new, self-aware and fully self-reproducing digital art machine has been launched in the UK.
The company, called The Gallery Project, has just been launched and is the brainchild of London-based entrepreneur and designer, Paul D’Ambrosio.
It’s a self-assembling, self reproducing 3D printing platform, with an emphasis on using the latest in 3D printers to create high-quality art.
The first piece is a digital painting, using a laser engraving technique that can be done in seconds.
“The first piece I created using this 3D printer was a digital drawing I made using a 3D scanner.
That was a 3d print that took a while to complete.
Then I realised that I could do it with my hands and that it was actually more satisfying to make the painting,” D’Ambrosio tells Wired.
“And then the next one, I realised I could use my hand to draw a piece of art using the same 3D print I used for the first one.
It was very satisfying to create this painting using the 3D printed material that I was using.”
The first project, which is called The Gutter, is a one-of-a-kind 3D-printed sculpture in the form of a watercoloured piece of graffiti art.
“It’s a watercolour painting,” explains D’Abrosios.
“This watercolour is made of the same material that we used for our 3D scan, which was actually a spray paint I had on hand.
The paint is made from a liquid that was sprayed onto a piece with a paint brush.”

The artist explains that his inspiration for creating this piece of digital art came from the artwork of Damien Hirst, who created works using a single 3D laser scanner.
“There are so many artists who use lasers, and so many other things that I don’t really think are useful in the world, but this was a really great way to do that,” says D’ Ambrosi.
“Because of that, I thought that maybe I could also use lasers in my artwork, too.
So that meant that I had to design it in Photoshop, so that it would be completely watercolour.” “

The second piece, which D’Anbrososio calls The Glue, is also a digital art piece, but it’s a more conventional piece of artwork that’s more traditional than its predecessor.
“I have always been a fan of using the most traditional way to create something, so for me, that’s probably a good way to start,” says the London-born entrepreneur.
“So this is a very traditional piece of paint.
And the third piece, The Book, is not so traditional. “
Also, this is the first time I’ve created a 3-D printed piece of music, which I love, and I wanted to do something that I love.”

“My favourite piece is the book I made for the book club that I started,” says d’Ambris.
“If you’re not familiar with the book Club, it’s sort of a social book club for young people in London.
It basically is a book club with books and music that you can borrow for free, but if you can’t pay, you have to pay a £1 book fee.”
“And I love the idea of a book being a book, and having it as a gift.

“For the first four or five minutes of the project, you’re sitting in the machine,” says Paul Dampier, a design consultant, illustrator and founder of the company.
“You’re looking at this massive piece of glass.
And then suddenly it switches off, and you’re left in this massive room.
The glass is like a wall, so the sound is very natural, and the lighting is really great.
We wanted to have this feel of being a museum in a way, but we didn’t want it to look like a real museum. “
